Mathematics in Forces Tests
Mathematics carries significant weightage in Army, Navy, and PAF initial tests. The good news is that the math section mainly covers basic to intermediate level topics from Matric and FSc. If you memorize key formulas and practice regularly, this can become your strongest scoring section.
Essential Formulas You Must Memorize
1. Percentages
- Percentage = (Part / Whole) × 100
- Increase% = (New - Old) / Old × 100
- Decrease% = (Old - New) / Old × 100
2. Ratio and Proportion
- If a:b = c:d, then a×d = b×c (cross multiplication)
- Example: If 3:5 = x:15, then x = 9
3. Average
- Average = Sum of all values / Total number of values
- Weighted Average = Σ(value × weight) / Σ(weights)
4. Speed, Distance, Time
- Speed = Distance / Time
- Distance = Speed × Time
- Time = Distance / Speed
5. Profit and Loss
- Profit = Selling Price - Cost Price
- Loss = Cost Price - Selling Price
- Profit% = (Profit / CP) × 100
6. Simple and Compound Interest
- Simple Interest = (P × R × T) / 100
- Compound Interest = P(1 + R/100)^T - P
7. Area and Perimeter
- Rectangle: Area = L × W, Perimeter = 2(L+W)
- Circle: Area = πr², Circumference = 2πr
- Triangle: Area = ½ × base × height
8. Basic Algebra
- (a+b)² = a² + 2ab + b²
- (a-b)² = a² - 2ab + b²
- a² - b² = (a+b)(a-b)
